The design of the Airbag is a clear example of a transparent transformation from a linear to a circular economy; an example where design thinking creates new futures using materials already available to us. The global economy is only 7,2% circular, and the number is declining.
By rethinking processes and creating inter-industry alliances, this number can be raised significantly. The Airbags are an upcycled product that are almost fully sourced from waste materials from industrial or consumer processes.
The Airbag project started with FÓLK asking the designers at Studio Flétta to visit a local car part sale and create a design from materials that were not currently resold or reused by the dealership. Flétta found the airbags among the waste in the car part dealership and proposed the idea of creating beautiful upcycled pillows from the waste.
To everyone's surprise the airbags are pastel colored with colorful emboidery when they emerge from the steering wheel. Airbag as a product is extremely strong and robust, ideal for the children's room, outdoor use, the yoga studio or the living room.

The Airbag pillows are the perfect example of how to transform available materials into a creative and beautiful design.
The Airbag is extremely strong and durable, and can be used both indoors and outdoors. The inner cushion can be removed, and the outer airbag textile can be machine washed at 30°.
Outer airbags from European car junkyards. Nylon handles from Paracord.eu, the only non-circular material. The label is a cotton-polyester print from Denmark. The inner cushion uses leftover textiles and surplus power-fill from 66°North.
